The connection would appear to be that Nicholas Charles DETERDING (per company records, born 16 VI 1959) is the stepson of the late Ronald James ("Jimmy") DETERDING (c.1930/1 - 5 XI 2011), who was a grandson of Henri Wilhelm August DETERDING (19 IV 1866 - 4 II 1939), the chairman of Royal Dutch Shell. Henri Deterding was given an honorary KBE in 1920, and became known as Sir Henri, despite the fact that he was a foreign national.
Sir Henri Deterding had seven children: two sons and a daughter from his first marriage, and two daughters from each of his second and third marriages. His younger son, Ronald Frits DETERDING (18 VI 1900 - 21 XII 1957) married Ethel Louise PHILBRICK (c.1902/3 - 11 V 1991) in 1925 (registered Q4 - Bromley), and there would appear to have been two sons and four daughters of this marriage, the elder son being Ronald James ("Jimmy") DETERDING.
Jimmy Deterding was married in 1966 (registered Q3 - Fakenham) to Shirley L CARNT, née SMITH, a noted artist under her first married name. She had married her first husband, Michael J CARNT, in 1955 (registered Q2 - Fakenham), and had two children Sarah J CARNT, in 1957, and Nicholas C CARNT, in 1959. It seems that they took their stepfather's surname after their mother remarried.
