He was s of George John BAKEWELL 1896-1950 by his 1924 m reg Q3 Staffs to Elsie Lilian 1897-1963 d of Arthur William BUTCHER 1865-1916 by his 16 March 1893 m (St Mary’s, Aston) to Lillie Emily CULLEY 1864-1947. He m 1^st 1955 (div 1972) the LP Baroness BAKEWELL DBE b 1933 and had a son and a dau. He m 2^nd as her 2^nd h Melissa b 1934 d of Ian Hope DUNDAS OF DUNDAS 30^th Chief 1908-76 and his 1^st w (her 1st h) Pamela Ernestine c1910- d of Charles Herbert DORMAN 1859-1915 (solicitor) of Fleet, Hants and by his 1892 m reg Q3 Kent to Constance Margaret GAITSKELL 1870-1958.

The late Mr Bakewell's widow is a third cousin twice removed downwards of the Rt Hon Hugh Todd Naylor GAITSKELL, CBE (9 IV 1906 - 18 I 1963), Leader of the Opposition and of the Labour Party from 1955 to 1963, through their common descent from John Gaitskell (1719 - 1806) and his wife, Anne Betty Fell:

Pamela Ernestine DORMAN (26 XII 1909 - 12 IV 1982) was married secondly, on 16 December 1938, to Lt-Cdr (Lewis) Peter MOORE (25 VIII 1908 - 19 X 1940) and thirdly, on 17 January 1947, to Maj Hugh Mearns GOW, MC (c.1908 - c.1955).

Lt-Cdr Peter Moore's sister, Joan Mary MOORE (3 VIII 1905 - 30 V 1994), was the wife (married 1928) of Brig Henry Alleyne LASH, OBE (8 IV 1901 - 13 V 1975); their daughter, Jennifer Anne Mary Alleyne LASH (27 II 1938 - 28 XII 1993), was the wife (married 1962) of Mark TWISTLETON-WYKEHAM-FIENNES (11 XI 1933 - 30 XII 2004), a great-great-grandson of the 16th Baron Saye and Sele, by whom she had six children, including the actors Ralph and Joseph Fiennes and the film director Martha Fiennes.

Lt-Cdr Peter Moore was also a first cousin of Philip Brian Cecil MOORE, the Life Peer Baron Moore of Wolvercote, GCB, GCVO, CMG, QSO (6 IV 1921 - 7 IV 2009), Private Secretary to Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II from 1977 to 1986.
