This peerage seems quite tragic in recent years, if I am not mistaken
three brothers have succeeded each other and none of them very old
either?

marquess, you're quite right about the recent history of this title.

The 4th Baron (1866-1942) outlived his oldest son who died in 1936 at
40.

The 5th Baron (grandson of the 4th Baron, son of his eldest son) was
only 48 when he died in 1974.

The 6th Baron (eldest son of the 5th Baron was only 40 when he died in
1989.

The 7th Baron (son of the 5th Baron and brother of the 6th Baron) is
the peer who has now passed away at 56.

We can only hope that the 8th Baron (who is the eldest of twin sons
born to the 7th Baron) has better luck.

The 8th Baron Crofton (11th Baronet Crofton of the Mote) is now entered on the Official Roll of the Baronetage.  This baronetcy has not been on the Roll since the death of the 5th baron/8th baronet in 1974.

Is he really the 11th baronet (not 10th)?

I think you are right!  The Official Roll appears to be incorrect.

I understand from Cdr Perry Abbott of the Standing Council of the Baronetage that the Registrar has authorised the amendment of the Roll to show Lord Crofton as the 10th rather than the 11th baronet.  Evidently the error dates back to the first edition of the Roll in 1913!
