He was s of Sir Douglas Frederick DUFF GORDON 7^th Bt 1892-1964 and Gladys Rosemary d 1933 d of Col Vivian HENRY CB 1868-1929 and (as her 1^st h, her 2^nd was Reginald Akroyd) Gladys Mary 1884-1974 d of Sir Powlett Charles John MILBANK 2^nd Bt 1852-1918 and Edith Mary GREEN-PRICE 1852-1928 (d of Sir Richard GREEN-PRICE 1^st Bt 1803-87). He m 1^st 1967 (div 1975) Grania Mary 1941-2012 d of Fitzgerald VILLIERS-STUART 1902-71 of that Irish gentry family of Dromana, Villierstown, Co Waterford [* see note below] and Helen d of Frank DALY of Ardnalee, co Cork, and had a son. He m 2^nd Eveline Virginia b 1947 d of Lt-Col Samuel SOAMES 1906-2006 scion of that gentry family f/o Sheffield Park and Margaret [1915-2002] d of Maj Francis Joseph DOLAN, and had a further three sons. His eldest son succeeds him:

[*note] Fitzgerald Villiers-Stuart's father was the only son of the 1^st and only Baron STUART OF DECIES (UK cr 1839, ext 1874) but failed to establish his claim before the Committee for Privileges as doubts were cast on the validity of his parents’ marriage. (See CP 12 Pt 1, pp408-9 note j for details, where the peerage is described as extinct or dormant. The note says of the claimant: ‘when he claimed his father's Barony and was called on in the ordinary course to lodge proof of his parents' marriage, had the painful shock of finding that such proof was not available and failed accordingly to make good his claim before the Committee for Privileges in 1876.’)
