From the Telegraph of 14 Dec 2024: MARTINEAU Richard Makepeace died peacefully on Tuesday 10th December aged 86. Beloved husband of Diney, loving father of John, Antonia and Imogen and adored grandfather. A private cremation will be followed by a memorial service at St Mary's Church, Walsham-le-Willows, date to be announced.

He was s of Maurice MARTINEAU of Walsham le Willows, Suffolk. He m 1981 Diana b 1941 d of Maj Robert Henry CALVERT 1912-87 scion of that gentry family of Ockley Court (and gs of Sir Hugh Arthur Henry CHOLMELEY 3rd Bt 1839-1904, gt gs of Sir Charles Robert ROWLEY 4th Bt 1800-88, 2xgt gs of 2nd Baron HUNTINGFIELD 1778-1844, etc) and Monica 1916-2007 d of Edward Gurney BUXTON 1865-1929 (gs of Sir Edward North BUXTON 2nd Bt 1812-58) and Laura 1875-1957 d of John GURNEY 1845-87 scion of that gentry family of Walsingham Abbey and as her 1st h Dame Isabel Charlotte DBE DGStJ 1854-1932 (Lady Talbot de Malahide) d of Robert BLAKE-HUMFREY 1795-1886 sometime head of that gentry family (now HUMFREY-MASON) f/o Necton etc and Charlotte 1809-94 d of Lt-Col John HARVEY 1755-1842 (gf of Sir Robert John HARVEY 1st Bt 1817-70 who was gt gf of 1st Baron HARVEY OF TASBURGH & 4th Bt 1893-1968) and Frances 1765-1809 d of Sir Roger KERRISON 1740-1808 sometime head of that gentry family of Burgh Hall, and had a son and two daus as above

Maurice Martineau was his grandfather.

He was son of John Edmund Martineau, of that LG Family, and of his wife, Catherine Makepeace Thackeray Ritchie.

married 1st Teresa Ashton

married 2nd Diana Calvert, a descendant of Lady Georgiana Beauclerk (1809-1880).

He was collaterally related to the writer Harriet Martineau, and was great-great-grandson of William Makepeace Thackeray.
