The death is being reported of the 3rd (and last) Viscount Simon a Labour elected hereditary member of the House of Lords . A by election will have to be held .

Per wikipedia, the date of death is August 15th.

My Lords, I regret to inform the House of the deaths of the noble Lord, Lord Smith of Leigh, on 2 August and of the noble Viscount, Lord Simon, on 15 August. On behalf of the House, I extend our condolences to the noble Lords’ families and friends.

Jan David SIMON was born 1940, the son of 2nd Viscount SIMON (1902 - 1993) and Christie HUNT (c 1910 - 2000). He m 1969 Mary Elizabeth BURNS and with her had a dau. He remained in the House of Lords after 1999 as an excepted hereditary peer elected by the whole house.

He had no heir and, as stated in the subject line, this title is now EXTINCT.

From the Telegraph & Times of 4 Sept 2021: SIMON Jan David, 3rd Viscount Simon passed away on 15th August 2021, aged 81. Beloved husband of the late Mary-Liz, adored father of Fiona and friend to many. He will be greatly missed. Funeral to be held at 12pm, 14th September at Cam Valley Crematorium. No flowers please, but donations, if desired, to Asthma UK...
