Alice's brother Harry Haden-Paton is a godson of Sarah, Duchess of
York aka Fergie. Harry, aged 27,, an actor who was educated at Eton
with Prince William (actually a year junior I believe!), is currently
dating fellow actress Rebecca Night. Their father is Cavalry officer
Nigel Hadden-Paton, a truffle expert, who now runs Truffle UK, a
company which cultivates truffles and imports them from France, Italy
and Croatia.

Alice is a 25-year-old events manager, and the couple decided to marry
in 2009 as Nicholas, aged 31, is due to leave for Afghanistan at the
end of this year. He is a Captain in the Life Guards. Not sure if
Nigel Hadden-Paton was also in the Life Guards; the Blues and Royals,
the same regiment as Prince Harry, is mentioned.

The couple have known each other for just one and a half years.
Nicholas is the third van Cutsem son to be engaged, and only William,
the youngest, is now left on the market. The older brothers are
Edward, married to Lady Tamara Grosvenor, and Hugh, married to Rose
Astor. Both have daughters.

How did the van Cutsems come to be an LG family? They appear to have
married well (Fortescues, Traffords, Comptons etc.) but I can't find
much about them prior to around 1900. Anyone know anything about their
origins?

I am surprised I cannot locate them in any of the recent Burkes
LG's..

There is a Van Cutsem family in the Landed Gentry with the earliest
recorded ancestor appearing in the early 15th century but Nicholas and
his father are not mentioned therein, so not clear how the latter
connect to the LG family. The groom is listed in the latest Debrett's
(pP902) under the Barony of Lucas of Crudwell, to which he is in
remainder. Where it's shown that Nicholas and his father descend from
the 2nd Earl Grey and 4th Marquess of Northampton.

I've now found the connection to the LG family:
Henry Harcourt van Cutsem (1877-Feb 1917 mentioned in the LG lineage)
m 1915 Eleanor Mary Josephine Southwell (d Nov 1917) dau of Edward
Southwell TRAFFORD (LG family of Wroxham Hall) was the father of:
Bernard Henry Richard van Cutsem (d 1975) who m 1939 (as her 1st husb,
div 1947) Mary Compton (1919-1989) dau of Edward Robert Francis
Compton, grandson of 4th Marquess of Northampton and their son:
Hugh Bernard Edward van Cutsem (b 1941) is the father of the groom
Nicholas Peter Geoffrey van Cutsem (b 1977)

As I mentioned earlier, they married well but I'm not sure that they
are an LG family in their own right. I don't think that they are
parvenus exactly, but don't feel that good marriages entitle them to
LG status.

They are in Burke's Landed Gentry of Ireland which, barring any more
official publication, makes them LG in my - and mamy others' - eyes

Sorry correction: van Cutsems are in the LG of GB not of Ireland.

Also, can someone identify the daughters of Lady Tamara & Edward van
Cutsem and the Hugh van Cutsems? The couples are listed without issue
in the latest peerage - which admittedly is only good for info to
mid-2007

Thanks

I have no knowledge of Lady Tamara van Cutsem becoming a mother. I
reported this in 2007:-

Rose Nancy Langhorne van Cutsem (nee Astor, b 1979), wife of of Hugh
Ralph van Cutsem [b. 1974], scion of that LG family, gave birth to a
daughter, Grace Emilie Clare, 18 August, 2007.

Hugh is the second son of Hugh Bernard Edward van Cutsem [b. 1941], of
Hilborough, Norfolk [descended from the 4th Marquess of Northampton],
by his wife the former Jonkyrouwe Emilie, daughter of Jonkheer Pieter
Quarles van Ufford, of De Dumdoorn, Aerdenhout, Holland, and Rose is
the youngest daughter of David Waldorf Astor, CBE [b. 1943], of
Bruern, Oxfordshire, by his wife thr former Clare Pamela St. John
[scion of the Barons St. John of Bletso].

Rose Astor's paternal grandafther was the Hon. Michael Langhorne Asor
[1916-80] who married [1] Barbara Mary Colonsay McNeill; Rose's great-
grandgfather was the 2nd Viscount Astor [1879-1952], whose wife,
Nancy, was the first woman MP to take her seat in the House of
Commons.
