He was s of Frederick VINCENT (1895-1992) by his 1918 m (reg Q4 London) to Frances Elizabeth (1897-1944) d of Richard COLESHILL (1865-1944) by his 1893 m (reg Q2 Oxfordshire) to Ellen PALMER (1865-1943). He m 1955 Jean Paterson d of Kenneth STEWART and Jane BANKS, and had two sons (incl one s decd) and a dau.

Obit in the Times of 13 September 2018:

Chief of the defence staff renowned for his diplomatic skills in dealing with Nato and the UN during the wars in the former Yugoslavia....
...Born in 1931, Richard Frederick Vincent was the son of Frederick Vincent, who ran the large family joinery manufacturing business in Middlesex, and his wife, Frances. He was educated at Aldenham School and, rather than Sandhurst, was commissioned into the Royal Artillery via Mons Officer Cadet School in 1951. He met Jean Paterson Stewart, who survives him, while stationed in Germany. They were married in 1955. He is also survived by a son, Mark, who followed his father into the Royal Artillery and retired recently as a colonel to take up a senior civil service post in the MoD, and a daughter, formerly a nurse married to a GP, also retired. Another son died in tragic circumstances as an infant.

From the Daily Telegraph 19 September 2018 VINCENT OF COLESHILL Field Marshal The Lord Richard. Died on 8th September aged 87 years. Devoted husband to Jean, much loved father to Mandy and Mark and grandfather to Katie, Lucy, James, Edward, Jonty, Nick and Fiona. Funeral for family and friends in Hampshire followed by a memorial service at a later date. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to ABF and the RACF. The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh were represented by Marshal of the Royal Air Force the Lord Craig of Radley (formerly Chief of the Defence Staff) at the Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Field Marshal the Lord Vincent of Coleshill (formerly Chief of the Defence Staff and Master Gunner of St. James's Park) which was held at St. Margaret's Church, Westminster Abbey, today.

The Duke of York was represented by Admiral Sir Jock Slater.

The Princess Royal was represented by Major Harry Wallace.

The Duke and Duchess of Kent were represented by Mr. Nicolas Adamson.
