He was the son of Lieut Francis Charles COBBE RNVR (1913-1949) scion of the Cobbe  Irish gentry family  (BIFR 249) and (m 1941) his cousin Joan Mervyn COBBE.  He m 1970 Hon Isabel [Isabelle in BIFR] Anne Marie Henrietta DILLON b 1942  da of the 20th Viscount Dillon and had 2 s and 2 d.
