From the Telegraph of 21 Nov 2025: FENWICK Major Charles X.S. LVO, formerly Grenadier Guards. Extra Equerry to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, Managing Director By Pass Nurseries Ltd and The Chelsea Gardener. Peacefully in his sleep on 17th November 2025. Much loved husband, brother, uncle, stepfather and godfather. Private funeral in Suffolk. A memorial service will take place on a future date to be announced.
He was third of five sons of David FENWICK 1910-82 scion of that gentry family f/o Thirlestaine House and (Gwladys) Maita Joan 1911-2007 d of Horace James POWYS 1873-1952 (gt gs of 2nd Baron LILFORD 1775-1825) and Edith Mary Cockburn HARVEY 1881-1971. He m 1997 as her second h Sara Elizabeth (widow of David Nickerson d 1995) b 1935 reg Q2 Norfolk d of Col John Howlett JEWSON MC TD 1895-1975 by his 14 April 1932 m (St Andrew, Norwich) to Elizabeth (Betty) Gwydyr FLETCHER 1914-82.
He was Asst. Private Sec. to The Duke of EDINBURGH 1975-77 & Extra Equerry after that, having previously tutored Sheik Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai.
