BARNE Major Christopher Miles died as a result of a heart attack peacefully at Southampton General Hospital on 18th October 2012, aged 71. Beloved Father of Charles, Father-in-law of Tory and Grandpa to Cara and Posie. Private Cremation, followed by Memorial Service at St John the Baptist Church, Bere Regis, at 11am on Tuesday 30th October 2012

He was s of Lt-Col Anthony Miles BARNE OBE (1906-96, scion of that gentry family of Sotterly, and of the THORNHILLs of Fixby & Diddington. Scion also of the marquesses of HERTFORD and the ORR-EWING and HONYWOOD Bts), and Cara (1915-97) d of Philip HOLMES-HUNT of Toorak, Melbourne, Australia. He m 1976 (div 2001) Lady Elizabeth Beatrice MONTGOMERIE (b 1945) d of 17th Earl of EGLINTON & 5th Earl of WINTON. Their only child, Charles Miles (b 1978), is m with two daus.
