If married in 2008 and born in 1987 are correct, I don't think Rowan Temple will be anything but Mr. Temple.

Correct Harry, he will be the Hon Rowan Temple Gore Langton. Though I should love to see a peer bring a test case to courts so that children legitimised by marriage can succeed to a peerage.

The son can style the junior title, but claiming his father title will be another story. In due course a handful of titles in similar matter will prove otherwise I suspect.

The courtesy title is for the heir apparent only, his son is not the heir apparent and therefore can not bear the title. There have been cases in the past where the presumed issue of a peer has borne a courtesy title and then when it was found out that the said presumed heir was not the issue  of the peer, the use of the title was dropped. Of the top of my head I can think of the late marquis of Londonderry had a son from his first marriage who initially bore the courtesy title of viscount casteraugh.

Do we know who the new heir is, in that case?

Would seem to be brother Robert, unless James has issue born after 2008.
