From the Telegraph of 9 Feb 2023: HACKING Bruce died peacefully on 31st January after a long illness, stoically borne. His Funeral will be held at Masonhill Crematorium, Ayr, KA6 6EN at 11 a.m. on Friday 17th February. Please no flowers but donations to RNLI if desired.[Notice placed by his dau Jo Shoosmith]

He was s of the 2nd Baron HACKING 1910-71 and Daphne Violet 1915-98 d of Robert Leslie FINNIS 1878-1946 of Kensington, London by his 14 July 1914 m to Ethel Violet Nelson 1891-1980 d of George Nelson STENHOUSE 1858-94 by his 31 Oct 1889 m to (as her 1st h, her 2nd was Henry Munt) Ethel Josephine TOULMIN 1866-1939 scion of that gentry family f/o Hackney. He m 1967 Hon Fiona Margaret NOEL-PATON b 1943 d of the LP Baron FERRIER 1900-92 and Joane 1907-84 d of Sir Gilbert WILES KCIE CSI 1880-1961 and Winifred Mary 1881-1978 d of Frederick Deen PRYOR 1848-1928 of Cambridgeshire by his 1880 m reg Q4 Northants to Mary Louisa RENSHAW 1859-1916, and had a son and a dau.

He was a page at the 1953 Coronation - to the Duke of Portland, one of the four Knights of the Garter who bore the Canopy for the Anointing,   According to Chips Channon in his diaries (unexpurgated version just published) "The four Garter Knights rather bungled the canopy and were clumsy".  Will have to re-watch that bit of the Coronation service to see if if I can spot what they did wrong
