He was s of Fergus Thomson WALLACE of Annan, Dumfriesshire. He m 1983 Rosemary Janet d of Willian Grant Paton FRASER OBE TD of Milngavie, Glasgow and had two daus.

From the Telegraph of 6 Feb 2026: WALLACE James Robert, Rt Hon Baron Wallace of Tankerness, KC. Peacefully on 29th January 2026 aged 71. Beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. The Funeral Service will take place in St Magnus Cathedral, Kirkwall on Tuesday 10th February at 11.30 a.m [and will be streamed]. Family flowers only, but a retiring collection will be available in aid of Vascular/Aortic Marker Research; … There will be a memorial service for Jim in Dunblane Cathedral on Friday 5th June. All who wish to pay respects are welcome at these ceremonies.
