After the recent Grayson situation (baronet died, son born out of wedlock, so baronet's brother succeeded), I was curious how many others might be in the same situation.
I only looked at Peers, and only those from Dukes down through the Viscounts. In some cases, the peer has one son not in the line of succession, and in other cases, 2 sons.
Duke
Manchester-- Brother is hp.
Marquess
Queensberry- Second son is heir.
Earl
Dartmouth-- Brother is hp
Eldon-- Second son is heir.
Harewood--Second son is heir
Jellicoe-- Brother is hp.
Lisburne-- Brother is hp
Temple of Stowe-- Brother is hp.
Viscount
Cowdray-- Second son is heir
de Vesci-- Second son is heir
Galway-- The hp is from a different line than the current Viscount.
Sidmouth-- Second son is heir.
Question: If the second son is the heir, as in some of these cases, is he "heir apparent" or "heir presumptive?"
Thanks.
