Some more information is available from Mandrake about the bride,
groom, and the bride's father who was chairman of the National Trust
until 2008.

[begin extract from Mandrake, The Daily Telegraph]

Sir William Proby, who stepped down as the chairman of the National
Trust in 2008, has a chance to show off a historic property of his
own.
His daughter Alice, 27, a solicitor, is to marry Fergus Eckersley, who
works for the Foreign Office, at Elton Hall, his seat in
Cambridgeshire, later this year.
“We are delighted,” says Lady Proby. “They have known each other since
they were at Oxford.”
Fergus, 27, is the son of Caroline Eckersley, a former model. After
she divorced his father, Roger, she lived with Paul Gaisford, the
gipsy artist who gave Sarah, Duchess of York painting lessons.

"The Proby Baronetcy, of Elton Hall in the County of Huntingdon, was
created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 30 January 1952 for
Major Richard George Proby, President of the Country Landowners'
Association. He was the son of Colonel Douglas Hamilton, who assumed
by Royal license the surname of Proby in 1904, [himself] son of Lord
Claud Hamilton and his wife Lady Elizabeth Emma Proby, daughter of
Granville Leveson Proby, 3rd Earl of Carysfort, and sister of William
Proby, 5th Earl of Carysfort (on whose death in 1909 the earldom
became extinct). Lord Claud Hamilton was the second son of James
Hamilton, Viscount Hamilton, eldest son of John Hamilton, 1st Marquess
of Abercorn. Consequently, the present holder of the Proby Baronetcy
of Elton Hall is also in remainder to the marquessate of Abercorn and
its subsidiary titles, titles held by his kinsman the Duke of
Abercorn."

Sir Richard Proby was the third (of four) sons of Colonel Douglas
Hamilton, later Proby [1904] by his wife Lady Margaret Frances Hely
Hutchinson, daughter of Richard John Hely Hutchinson, 4th Earl of
Donoughmore. His eldest brother Granville died 1947, apparently
unmarried; another brother Claud died 1901.

Sir Richard Proby married twice, his first wife dying in 1967 per the
Hamilton genealogy which gives no further details of his descendants
(although it lists his yr brother's two adopted children and their
marriages). No issue by the second wife I think.

His widow Blanche, Lady Proby died 28 March 2008. She was born Blanche
Harrison Cripps, daughter of Sir Henry Harrison Cripps, DSO, of the
Royal Fusiliers.

According to the report in 2002, the heir presumptive was "Patrick
James Proby, (b.
1944), unm., nephew of the 2nd Bt."

Is this correct?

Louis Epstein noted

1) "One has to wonder if this Colonel Cripps could be related to
the Barons Parmoor...perhaps a son of (William) Harrison Cripps,
next elder brother of the 1st Baron, who left unspecified issue
by his first wife Blanche according to Burke's."

I wondered about the Parmoor connection too.

Louis also noted that
2) "The new baronet has four daughters, but no sons...
: The heir presumptive to the baronetcy is Patrick James Proby, (b.
: 1944), unm., nephew of the 2nd Bt.
And there are no other heirs in remainder."

I assume that the baronetcy is doomed to extinction.

Is Patrick a son of Claud Proby and a brother of Caroline Fiona Proby
who md 1969 (div 1988) the 6th Viscount Hampden and is mother of the
present (7th) Viscount?

According to Debrett's 2008, the only male that was in remainder,
Patrick (b. 1944) died in 2004. Therefore,unless the current (61 year
old) baronet produces a son, the baronetcy will become extinct with
his passing.

Thanks, Brooke.

I really need to do a better cut-and-paste job.
