Rowan Charles Bayfield Freeland educ. St Catharine's Coll., Oxon. (B.A.), a Blue Badge tour guide, formerly solicitor (partner, Simmons & Simmons) in patent and intellectual property law. Davina Alexandra Claire (née Salisbury) educ. St Hugh's Coll., Oxon. (B.A. Jurisprudence 1979). Given the mother's name 'Parker' on her birth record, and the limited number of possibilities, her parents seem to have been Maj. Dennis Edward Salisbury (1919-1964), Royal Corps of Signals, formerly of The Black Watch, and Duke of Wellington's Regiment, of 49, West Hill, Sanderstead, Surrey, (per military records his home address previously 29, Lansdown Place, Cheltenham, Glos.), and Margaret H., dau. of - Parker. They married 1951 at Cheltenham (both daughters' births registered in London, at Kensington and Wandsworth, respectively), and per the St Hugh's College Chronicle, both Davina and her elder sister, Vivienne (whose second middle name was Margaret, which is somewhat corroborative; B.A. Jurisprudence 1977, B.C.L.), were educated at Cheltenham Ladies' Coll., which is again a useful and possibly corroborative piece of information.

I'd say that it's not unlikely that Marigold Freeland's second middle initial 'S.' stands for 'Salisbury'; for the record, it's not an initial shared by her sisters, but as to whether that makes it more or less likely that, as the eldest daughter, she carries her mother's surname, it's probably best not to jump to conclusions!

Came across enough to make a fuller look at the Freelands worthwhile:

Rowan C. B. Freeland only s. of Paul Rowan Bayfield Freeland (1926-2005), of Colchester, Essex, Lt (war substantive) Devonshire Regiment (WWII) and (m. 1953) Suzanna B., dau. of - Burch.

Paul Freeland elder s. of Rowan Arthur Bayfield Freeland (1895-1970), of Mayfield, Newton Road, Sudbury, Suffolk and (m. 1923) Agatha Constance (1895-1977; as a widow, of The Red House, Meadow Lane, Sudbury), dau. of - Baker.

R. A. B. Freeland second s. of Russell Guy Freeland (1872-1940), of The Elms, Toft Monks, nr Beccles, Norfolk, educ. Oxford (B.A.), tenant farmer and (m. 1901) Agnes Louisa, dau. of Richard Langford Wilson. The Elms is still owned by the family, apparently descendants of the third son, Richard Bayfield Freeland; literature refers to the house having been owned by the family for '150 years'.

Russell Freeland second s. of Russell George Freeland (1843-1915), of Beech House, Cobham, Surrey, sometime of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, Lt-Col, King's Own Royal Lancashire Regiment and (m. 1869) Fanny Gertrude Mary, dau. of Adm. Henry Wolsey Bayfield (1795-1885), Admiralty surveyor for North America (and Canada), apparently of a family once in possession of Bayfield Hall, nr Letheringsett, Norfolk.

Russell George Freeland apparently born at Hasketon, Suffolk, but I couldn't find any further records.

Just for completeness's sake, previous mentions of this family in this group:

William Robert Freeland m. Clare Pelly, of that baronetical family; his parents, based on what I could find (a marriage record eluding me), are Richard Guy Freeland (1946-) of The Elms, Toft Monks (this being the branch in possession of that property mentioned in a previous post) and Catriona Jane (presumably 'Munro', given the sons' birth records). Richard Guy Freeland is, I believe, son of Richard Bayfield Freeland (1908-1980), of Virginia Farm, Toft Monks, and Marion Patricia (1906-1995); again, no birth record nor marriage record I could find. R. B. Freeland an Army colonel, so possibly married/ had issue overseas. This R. B. Freeland third s. of Russell Guy Freeland, as in previous post.

William Robert Freeland's elder brother, Andrew Richard Douglas Freeland (1974-), m. Joan Carmen Simone, of the Gilbey baronetical family.

Susan Freeland (wife of Christopher Oswald Adye Bindloss) was dau. of Lt Gen. Sir Ian Henry Freeland (1912-1979), O.C., 7th Battalion, Royal Norfolk Regiment, late Queen's Royal Regiment, G.B.E., K.C.B., D.S.O., D.L. His father, Brig.-Gen. Sir Henry Francis Edward Freeland (1870-1946), Royal Engineers, K.C.I.E., C.B., D.S.O., M.V.O., of Sudbury, Suffolk, formerly of Elm Grove, Ockham, Ripley, Surrey, was the elder brother of Russell Guy Freeland (see previous post).

Lt-Col John Anthony Russell Freeland (1912-1989), who m. Dorothy Louisa, dau. of Hubert William Fane (of the Earls of Westmorland), was s. of John Cavendish Freeland (1876-1944), Col Indian Army, C.B., C.B.E.; J. C. Freeland younger brother of Henry Francis Edward Freeland and Russell Guy Freeland (see above/ previous posts).

Anthony Freeland (1946-), father, by Astrid Sophie Maria Hedwig Antonia Deym, Gräfin von Stritez, of Tara Gabriella Maria Josephine Freeland (1978-), engaged in 2007 (and evidently subsequently married) to Graf Johannes A. F. H. von Meran, is s. of Ronald Freeland and Bridget V. Stead; I haven't managed to link them to the Freelands above, but possibly further investigation would indicate a link.
