From the Times of 1 April 2025: PELHAM Richard Anthony Henry died on 7th March 2025, aged 72, from cancer. Vintage motorcycle racer and trialler, gricer, traveller, antiquary and curmudgeon. Much missed by wife Gina, sons Duncan and Kit. Memorial at St Mary’s, Bruton, 2pm on Wednesday 27th August.

He was s of Maj Anthony George PELHAM 1911-69 (gt gs of 5th Earl of CHICHESTER 1844-1905, 2xgt gs of 1st Baron WOLVERTON 1797-1873, 4xgt gs of 1st Viscount DONERAILE c1715-1787, 2xgt gs of Pascoe GRENFELL 1761-1838 (gf of 1st Baron GRENFELL 1841-1925), etc) and Ann-Margrete 1912-90 d of Axel BERGENGREN of Boras, Sweden. He m 1987 (Geor)Gina Levinge b c1953 reg Q1 Surrey d of (Charles) David Dalrymple GILMOUR 1922-2015 of Ringshall Grange, Suffolk and Barbara Anne G b 1924 reg Q2 London d of Richard George CLAYTON 1884-1965 by his c1920 m reg Q1 London to Agnes Lilian im Thurn GILZEAN d 1972, and had two (unm) sons. His elder s DUNCAN JAMES BERGENGREN b 24 Nov 1987 succeeds his father as presumptive heir to the present 9th Earl of CHICHESTER b 1944 whose only child is a dau.

Mrs Barbara Anne Gilzean GILMOUR, née CLAYTON, (4 V 1924 - 23 V 2008) was a second cousin of Samuel Wittewronge CLAYTON (8 I 1918 - 7 II 2004), the husband (married 7 VII 1956) of Lady Mary Cecilia LEVESON-GOWER (12 XII 1917 - 13 II 2014), who was a first cousin of Her Late Majesty Queen ELIZABETH II, being the daughter of the 4th Earl Granville and his wife (married 24 V 1916), Lady Rose Constance BOWES-LYON (6 V 1890 - 17 XI 1967), who was a sister of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.
 
Mrs Gilmour's father, Cdre Richard George CLAYTON, DSO, RD (25 X 1884 - 22 V 1965), was the third of six sons (there were also three daughters) of the Rev Arthur Prestwood CLAYTON (8 II 1853 - 9 VI 1933) and his wife (married 29 IV 1880), Mary Georgina LEVINGE (c.1860 - 12 VIII 1945), a granddaughter of Sir Richard LEVINGE, 6th Bt (29 X 1785 - 12 IX 1848), and sister of Sir William Henry LEVINGE, 9th Bt (21 V 1849 - 17 IV 1900).
