From the Telegraph and Times of 28 July 2020: NAPIER  Major General Lennox Alexander Hawkins CB OBE MC DL died peaceful in Monmouth on 21st July 2020 aged 92. Beloved father to Joanna, Philip and Sally. A Memorial Service will be held in Wales when it is safe to do so.

He was s of Maj Charles Macnaughton NAPIER (1896-1967, s of Lt-Col Sir William Lennox NAPIER 3rd Bt (1867-ka1915)) and his former wife Dorothy Constance (1895-1960) d of Col Reginald Hawkins HALL-DEMPSTER DSO (c1854-1922), scion of the Scots gentry family of that name of Scibo Castle and of the HAWKINS Irish gentry family. He m 1959 Jennifer Dawn (1938-2016) d of Basil Breeze WILSON (1911-88) of Medlicott, Neston, Cheshire and his 1st wife Olive C JONES, and had a son and 2 daus as above.

Major General Lennox Napier, who has died aged 92, won an MC in Malaya in 1957 during the Emergency; later, as chairman of the Rail Users Consultative Committee, he held the government to account over its privatisation plans.

Lennox Alexander Hawkins Napier, was born on June 28 1928 on his fathers’ farm near Broadway, Worcestershire. He was educated at Radley before going on to Sandhurst and was commissioned into the SWB in 1948.

Appointed MBE in 1965 and advanced to OBE in 1970, he was subsequently appointed CB in 1983. He was also active in Wales and Monmouthshire as Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Gwent.

Major General Lennox Napier married, in 1959, Jennifer Dawn Wilson. She predeceased him and he is survived by two daughters and a son. He followed in a family tradition going back five generations by completing his military career as Colonel of the [Royal] Regiment [of Wales].
