From the Telegraph of 4 Dec 2025: WEMYSS Charlotte Mary (née Bristowe) died on 1st December aged 74. Beloved wife of Michael, devoted mother of Hermione and Leonora, proud grandmother of Ophelia, Charles, Ossian, Rollo and Humphrey. Funeral, St Mary's, Star of the Sea, Wemyss Castle on 19th December at 11 a.m. followed by private burial.

She was d of Lt-Col Royle Lynn BRISTOWE 1901-71 of Brookhampton Hall, Ickleton, Cambridgeshire by his 1931 m reg Q1 London to (as her 2nd of 3 h, formerly Mrs Nigel Martyn, later Mrs Arthur Herbert) Kathleen Gladys Mabel Bridget 1904- d of Harold DICKINSON. She m 1975 Michael James b 1947 (see below for royal kinship) s of Capt David WEMYSS of that Ilk 1920-2005 (5xgt gs of 5^th Earl of WEMYSS 1699-1756) and Lady Jean Christian BRUCE b 1923 d of 10^th Earl of ELGIN & [14^th] KINCARDINE 1881-1968 and Hon Katherine Elizabeth COCHRANE DBE 1890-1989 d of 1^st Baron COCHRANE OF CULTS 1857-1951 and Lady Gertrude Julia BOYLE 1861-1950 d of 6^th Earl of GLASGOW 1825-90 and Hon Montague ABERCROMBY 1835-1931 d of 3^rd Baron ABERCROMBIE 1800-52, and had two daus as abov (Hermione Mary Mrs Martin Drake b 1982 and mother of Charles and Ophelia BELL and Leonora Anne Mrs Steven Wendt b 1986 and mother of Ossian and Rollo WENDT).

Through their mutual descent from the 3^rd Duke of Portland 1738-1809, Michael James WEMYSS b 1947 is a fifth cousin of The KING b 1948. And through their mutual descent from King GEORGE III (Michael from King WILLIAM IV 1765-1837 and His Majesty from the Duke of KENT & STRATHEARN 1767-1820) they are sixth cousins.

It seems that the late Mrs Wemyss was the daughter of Lt-Col Royle Lynn Bristowe and his second wife (married 1946), (Phyllis) Mary RUSH (7 VIII 1906 - 1993). This is borne out by the entry for her death on Scotland's People, which shows her mother's maiden surname as Rush.
