The Crewe-Reads are landed gentry (according to Burke's LG 1965). The
common ancestor of todays baby and the extinct Marquesses of Crewe, is
one John Offley who inherited the manor and arms of Crewe through his
mother; his elder son John is ancestor of the Crewe peers, the younger
son Randulph is ancestor of the
Crewe-Read landed gentry.
David is the elder son of John Offley Crewe-Read by his wife Hon. Diana
Mary Wroughton, dau of the 1st and last Baron Robins; his uncle
Stewart Erskine Crewe-Read was (in 1965) head of the house of
Crewe-Read.
