From the Telegraph of 11 Oct 2024: PORTARLINGTON George Lionel Seymour Dawson-Damer, The Earl of , much loved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on 6th October 2024. He will be greatly missed. Private funeral.

George Lionel Yuill Seymour DAWSON-DAMER succ his gf as 7^th Earl in 1959. He was s of Air Cdre Viscount Carlow AAF 1907-ka1944 (s of 6^th Earl of PORTARLINGTON 1883-1959) and as her 1^st h (Edith Phyllis Dianey) Peggy 1913-1963 (Mrs Peter Nugent) d of Charles CAMBIE of Toronto, Canada. He m 1961 Davina d of Sir Edward Henry WINDLEY KCMG KCVO 1909-72 and Patience Ann 1916-77 d of Lt-Gen Sir Bertram Norman SERGISON-BROOKE KCB KCVO CMG DSO KStJ 1880-1967 (gs of Sir Arthur Brinsley BROOKE 2^nd Bt 1797-1854 who was gt gf of 1^st Viscount BROOKEBOROUGH KG CBE MC 1888-1973) and his 1^st w Prudence Ida Evelyn SERGISON 1892-1918 scion of that (now SERGISON-BROOKE) gentry family of Cuckfield, and had three sons and a dau. His eldest son succeeds him.

CHARLES GEORGE YUILL SEYMOUR Dawson-Damer 8^th Earl of PORTARLINGTON has yet to establish his claim; b 6 Oct 1965: m 2002 Clare Louise b c1968 reg Q1 W Yorks d of Kenneth Rodney Graham GARSIDE b c1935 reg Q1 W Yorks, of Holywell Green, W Yorks by his 1963 m reg Q3 W Yorks to Irene Edith PARKER 1939-2005, and had a son and three daus.

Lord Portarlington was a Page of Honour to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother at the 1953 Coronation and Page of Honour to Queen Elizabeth II 1953-1955.  His son the new Earl was Page of Honour to Queen Elizabeth II 1979-1981

The new Earl and his brothers have all had children born in Australia, if my notes are correct. If they live there, I wonder whether the new Earl will bother to prove his claim to the title?

Although DPB Online hasn't updated the page yet, this looks to be the entire line of succession:

1. HENRY CHARLES YUILL SEYMOUR  (VISCOUNT CARLOW) (b. 2009), son of the new Earl

2.  Hon. Edward Lionel Seymour (b. 1967), younger brother of the new Earl

3. James Edward Grant (b. 2005), only son of #2

4. Hon. Henry Lionel Seymour (b. 1971), youngest brother of the new Earl

5. Jasper George Seymour (b. 2005),  elder son of #4

6. Fergus Timothy Seymour (b. 2009), younger son of #4

The late Earl had succeeded his grandfather in 1959 .  His own father, Air Commodore George Lionel Seymour (Viscount Carlow), only son of the 6th Earl,  had been killed on active service in 1944.

I hope I was able to, at least , contribute something new, when I posted the new line of succession,.  It can now be seen as  part of the updated DPB Online page.

The Australian connection for the Portarlingtons derives from the marriage of the 6th Earl to Winnifreda Yuill daughter of George Yuill.He was in the export trading and shipping  business and here is a link to his obituary:

The firm of GS Yuill still exists but only as an investment firm.The 7th Earl lived for most of his life in Sydney at 116 Wolseley Rd Point Piper, although he spent part of the year in a country house in lowland Scotland.His sons live in Sydney in Vaucluse and Cremorne.

His brother John(who was killed at Goodwood in a hill climb event in 2000) owned a rural property in Oran Park, Narellan at which he built a motor racing circuit which was used for touring car races.The property has now been sold for redevelopment into houses.

They are all quite well off thanks to their Yuill inheritance.

The old family seat was Emo Court in Co Laois which was sold in 1920.
