He was s of Reginald Joslin BUCKINGHAM (1891-1956) and Florence Grace (1894-) d of Cdr Charles Sinclair ELLIOT (1853-1915, gt gs of 1st Earl of MINTO (1751-1814) and 2xgt gs of Sir George AMYAND 1st Bt (1720-66)) and Florence Louisa DUDLEY (d 1950). He m 1965 (Jill)ian d of H V BOWLES OBE of Downlands, Sleepers Hill, Winchester, and had a son (Mark Vincent b 1968 reg Q3 Avon) and two daus (Lucy Elliot b c1967 reg Q1 Avon, m 1993 Prof James Jeffrey BINNEY FRS (b 1950) and had a son and a dau; Alice Susan b 1971 reg Q2 Cambs, m 1999 reg Q3 Cambs Henry W McAllister and had two sons and two daus) as below.

...Amyand David Buckingham, known to colleagues by his initials ADB, was born in Sydney in 1930 and grew up in Pymble on the city’s North Shore. His parents, Reginald and Grace, emigrated separately from England to Australia before the First World War....
...He is survived by his wife, Jillian, a physiotherapist. They met in 1964 on a transatlantic liner bound for Canada and married in Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford, 12 months later. An invitation to dinner at their home, nicknamed Buckingham Palace by friends, was always something special. They had three children: Lucy is a doctor, Mark is in the agricultural industry and Alice works in breastfeeding support....
Professor David Buckingham, CBE, FRS, chemist, was born on January 28, 1930. He died of heart failure on February 4, 2021, aged 91

Professor Buckingham's father-in-law's full name was Harold Vincent BOWLES (1910 - 28 IX 1965), Assistant Chief Inspector in the Immigration Branch of the Home Office, who received his OBE in the New Year 1964 Honours List. He was married in 1939 (registered Q3 - Haverfordwest) to Colleen Bessie Ashton; the birth of their daughter Jillian was registered in Haverfordwest in Q3 1941.
