Some notes on the Payne family:
Ralph Arthur Payne b. 1897, mentioned in bankruptcy notices of 1921 and 1924 as of Rodeside, Chelford, Cheshire and of 5, All Souls' Place, Langham Place, London; he was (acting) pilot officer, R.A.F. (WWII). I couldn't locate a marriage record or death record; there were a few James G. Paynes born around the same time, which meant I couldn't ascertain which was the one treated here, and thus couldn't identify the mother's maiden name.
R. A. Payne 2nd s. of Arthur Lavington Payne (1860-1917), of Staffield Hall, Kirkoswald, Cumbria, and of 16, Rutland Gate, London, S.W.7, formerly of Mobberley and of Altrincham, Cheshire. He was a 'home trade merchant (Manchester goods)' [partner, 'Smallware Manufacturers and General Merchants' (Church Street, Manchester), 'Tean and Cheadle' (Staffs.), and 'Tean Hall Agency' (London) until 1901, when these partnerships were dissolved per the London Gazette]. He m. 1887, Alice Ida (1867-), 4th dau. of James Dugdale, of Wroxall Abbey, Warwicks., J.P. [see BLG 1965, Dugdale of Wroxall Abbey]. Their elder son was James Ralph Salusbury Payne (1888-1918), Lt, Seaforth Highlanders (attached to 1st Battalion, Tank Corps); their daughter, Ida Lavington Payne (b. 1889) m. 1909, Maj. Robert Barbour (1876-1928), of the Earl of Chester's Yeomanry, J.P., D.L., of Bolesworth Castle, Tattenhall, Cheshire [see BLG 1965, Barbour of Bolesworth]. Their son, David Charles Barbour, was father of Robert David Barbour, who married 1975, Lavinia Frances, dau. of Capt. (John) Ralph Nigel Bingham, Coldstream Guards, of Stone House, Brimpton, Berks., [great-grandson of the 4th Earl of Lucan] and his wife Elizabeth Rosamund, dau. of Maj. Sir Algernon Thomas Peyton, 7th Bt. Maj. Robert Barbour and Ida Lavington (née Payne)'s daughter, Rosamund Lavington Barbour (1918-2015), married the 7th Baron Newborough and was mother of the 8th Baron.
Arthur Lavington Payne s. of Sir Salusbury Gillies Payne, 5th Bt (the succession apparently disputed in some way, as outlined on Wikipedia-
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payne_baronets ; from the 3rd Baronet descended also the Frankland-Payne-Gallwey baronets and Ralph Payne, 1st Baron Lavington [1739-1807], this place, in Wiltshire, apparently the Payne family's place of origin and from which title presumably the name appears in this branch).
From this point the lineage is well-established.
