The late Mr Murray-Gourlay's wife, née Fiona Joan RUMBLE (born 1963), is the youngest of the four children (one son and three daughters) of Capt John Bertram RUMBLE, RN (30 X 1928 - 2 VII 1996), Director General of the Royal Over-Seas League, 1979-91, and his first wife (married 1953, divorced 1992), Jennifer WILSON.

Capt Rumble was the son of Maj Leslie Bertram RUMBLE (24 VII 1899 - 17 IX 1977) and his wife (married 1926), Sybil Florence Leech PORTER (8 IV 1898 - 24 IX 1988; N.B. the "Leech" seems to have become part of her family's surname at some stage, but was not originally). Maj Rumble was himself the elder son of Sir Bertram Thomas RUMBLE, Kt (1 XI 1875 - 12 I 1949), Honorary Secretary and Treasurer of the Appeals Committee of the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, and his wife (married 1899), Florence Emily PRATT (c.1877 - 20 III 1956).

Sybil Florence Leech Porter was the youngest child of the Rev Henry Leech PORTER (1858 - c.1917/18) and his wife (married 29 XII 1885), Ada Louisa BEEBE (c.1860 - 21 VIII 1926). Her father's sister, Mary Robinson PORTER (1861 - 28 V 1953), was the wife (married 1888) of the Rev Arthur Baskerville POLWHELE (1858 - 5 V 1926), of that family, which, per Burke's Family Index, last appeared in Burke's Landed Gentry in the 1952 edition.

Capt Rumble's second wife (married 1992, as her second husband) was Mrs Elizabeth Barbara VILLIERS, née HOBBINS (born 24 IV 1930), whose first husband (married 1954, as his second wife) was Wg-Cdr David Hugh VILLIERS (30 IX 1921 - 12 IX 1962), a 3 x greats-grandson of the 1st Earl of Clarendon. Mrs Rumble had three children from her first marriage, the actors Christopher Francis VILLIERS (born 7 IX 1960), Jonathan Paul ("Jay") VILLIERS (born 23 VIII 1961) and the film producer Catherine Judith ("Cat") VILLIERS (born 20 XII 1955).
