The future of this title seems to be doubtful as there are only 2 heirs, the new baron's brother and his son.The son Ross is 34 and yet to marry.

malcolm,

I guess we can only hope that Ross and/or his brother actually do have at least one son between them, but DPB Online hasn't recorded it.  That's happened before.

If not,  both brothers are still young enough to marry and have children, so while things are a little bleak, there's still some hope, unlike other titles.

After checking the DPB Online page (not yet updated), I realized that Ross Andrew James (b.. 1990) may or may not, in fact, be the heir presumptive to his uncle's barony.  His parents, the late Hon. Evelyn and Nicola (nee Fullerton) were married in 1990.

Does anyone have any information as to when the marriage and the birth took place that year?

Thanks.

Brooke

Ancestry and GRO searches indicate that:

Evelyn W J HAMILTON and Nicola J FULLERTON married April 1990 Hounslow

Ross Andrew J HAMILTON was born August 1990 Hammersmith.

Technically a birth registration can take place some time after the actual birth, but I think we can safely assume it was not THAT long after, and Ross is in remainder.

Brooke,
Sorry you misunderstood my post. The brothers are the present 5th baron(Ion b1955) and his brother Evelyn(b1961).Ross is Evelyn's son and has no brother.
My information came from Darryl Lundy's site, which has yet to be updated with the death of the 4th Baron(I note Henry says Evelyn has died according to DPB online). Darryl Lundy says Evelyn was married in 1990 and Ross was born in1990 and quotes Burke's Peerage 2003,so without examining that further it would seem Ross is legitimate.Ross is not married and has no heir,so the future of the title depends on him.
The family are quite ancient going back to the Hamiltons of Cadzow, but like many moved to Ulster and the peerage commemorates parliamentary service to Ulster.
The peerage is in the peerage of the United Kingdom,so it matters whether Ross is legitimate. If it were a Scottish peerage, it would not,as the later marriage of the parents legitimates offspring born before their parents marriage and if this were applicable, the 4th Baron's son would be now the 5th Baron.

According to Electoral Rolls upto 2018, Ross Andrew James Hamilton, b. 1990, was living in Wood Lane, Isleworth, Middlesex.

Google searches for Ross+Hamilton+Isleworth show a Ross Hamilton, of Wood Lane, Isleworth, b. 23.08.1990, being charged and remanded in custody for the murder of a sports coach in November 2022. The case was last listed to be heard at the Old Bailey on Monday 13th November 2023. No further details so presumably the hearing was postponed/delayed.

Hi malcolm,

There are actually 2 brothers in the line of succession, behind their uncle, the new (5th) Baron.

According to DPB Online, the late Hon Evelyn had 2 sons, Ross and a younger son, Jack Peter Hans, b. 1994.  He is also shown as unmarried on the page.

So, is this Ross Hamilton as pointed out by Richard MH (the one who was charged and remanded in custody) the heir presumptive at present?

(Can I urge caution about posting addresses of living persons?  I know this information is often available elsewhere, but unless it is strictly necessary, I think we should refer "an address in Isleworth" and then "the same street in Isleworth" rather than the street by name.  This helps to maintain privacy where information is not easily available online)

It does seem very likely that the accused murderer, Ross Hamilton of Isleworth, is the same person as the heir presumptive to this Barony.

At least, as Brooke points out, Ross has a younger brother Jack (born 1994) who is also in remainder.  Jack is the last heir to this title.

Henry W,
I am not sure this is correct. The Daily Mail report is here:
and you will note the age of the person charged is 32.The Ross Hamilton we are talking about is at least 33.

The Daily Mail article was published 30 Nov 2022.  We know from my above work that the heir presumptive, Ross Andrew James HAMILTON, was born August 1990.  He would have been 32 on the date of publication, so this does match.

DPB Online has now updated this page.

Ross Andrew James is shown as the hp.  His brother Jack is the only other one in remainder.  Both are shown as unmarried.

The late Lord Holmpatrick's mother, née Anne Loys Roche BRASS (29 VI 1930 - 23 XII 1998), was the daughter of Cdr John Ernest Padwick BRASS (3 VII 1899 - 6 IV 1976) and his wife (married 1929), (Millicent) Evelyn ROCHE (7 I 1905 - X 1999).

Evelyn Roche was a daughter of the Rev George Ralph Melvern ROCHE (14 I 1869 - 10 VII 1948) and his wife (married 10 XI 1898), Evelyn May MERCER (1881 - 1922). I have not been able to find any connection with the Barons Fermoy or with the Roches in the Irish landed gentry, although that is not, of course, to say that no such connection exists.

Cdr John Ernest Padwick Brass was the son of Capt Ernest Henry BRASS (22 VIII 1869 - 10 XI 1901) and his wife (married 26 IV 1898, as her first of six husbands), Amy Bertha Ernestine ("Renie") PEPPER-STAVELEY (22 VII 1878 - 5 XI 1958), of that family, which, per Burke's Family Index, last appeared in Burke's Landed Gentry in the 1937 edition.
