From the Telegraph of 28 Nov 2025: TOWNSHEND Charles George, 8th Marquess Townshend. Died at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn, on November 20th aged 80 years. Beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather.

He was s of 7th Marquess of TOWNSHEND 1916-2010 and his 1st w Elizabeth Pamela Audrey 1915-89 (Lady Gault) d of Lt-Col Thomas LUBY 1882-1954 by his 2 Oct 1911 m (Calcutta) to Hilda Mabel MACKENZIE 1891-1974. He m 1st 1975 as her 2nd h Hermione 1945-85 only child of Lt-Cdr Robert Martin Dominic PONSONBY 1911-95 (2xgt gs of 4th Earl of BESSBOROUGH 1781-1847, etc etc) and as her 2nd h Dorothy Edith Jane 1913-94 d of John Henry Hervey Vincent LANE 1867-1917 sometime head of that gentry family f/o King’s Bromley (and gt gs of 2nd Baron BAGOT 1773-1856, etc etc) and Hon Grace Louisa EDWARDES 1872-1957 d of 4th Baron KENSINGTON 1835-96 and Grace Elizabeth d 1910 d of Robert JOHNSTONE DOUGLAS 1814-66 (gs of Sir William DOUGLAS 4th Bt c1730-1783 who was f of 6th Marquess of Queensberry) by his cousin & wife a d of 6th Marquess of QUEENSBERRY 1777-1837, etc etc, and had a dau and a son, who succeeds him. He m 2nd 1990 as her 2nd h Alison d of Sir Willis Ide COMBS KCVO CMG 1916-94 and Grace WILLIS 1913-2008.

Curious that four hereditary peers should succeed within days of each other when in the almost five months since mid June only one Lord Raglan inherited in September.
Also curious that the two Marquesses to inherit so far this year Conyngham   and Townshend have no "of" in their titles

Bremenmurray, as someone in healthcare, you will find that people tend to (anecdotally at least in my case) die more near the end of the year. You will find many a geriatric patient who, despite health issues, survives winter and lives on, or merely dies during it. 

As for the omission of "of" in titles, see this thread:

This does not usually apply with hereditary peers. In 2021 there was just one in December none in November,in 2022 none in either month,in 2023 two in November none in December and 2024 just one in November and one in December.In fact in most years hereditary peerage deaths cluster earlier in the year including summer months!
