JOHN NUGENT HOPE Of Whitney-on-Wye. Passed away peacefully on Friday morning, July 31st, at age 95. He had a magnificent run and will be deeply missed by his Son Augustine, Daughter in Law Maureen and Grandchildren Gabriel and Annie. A Memorial Service will be held at a date to be announced following the Covid pandemic.....

He was the son of Capt Laurence Nugent HOPE (1890-1973), scion of (but not in remainder to) the Marquesses of Linlithgow being descended from the 2nd son of the 4th Earl of Hopetoun, and (m 1919 as his 1st w) Hilda Mary HUNTER (d 1938).  He m (1) 1953 Polly (d 2013) dau of Gen Sir Hugh Charles STOCKWELL GCB KBE DSO  and (2) 1986 Mrs Penelope Berengaria WALKER (d 2010) dau of the novelist and poet Lawrence George DURRELL  having had a son Augustine Jason Nugent b 1961 by his 1st m
