From the Times of 24 Jan 2026: NEWBERY Nigel Colin died peacefully at home on 19th January, aged 93. He was dearly loved by Gilly, wife of 60 years, his two daughters, Georgina and Beatrice, and son, Alex (deceased), as well as by grandchildren, godchildren, wider family and friends. Nigel will be remembered for being the one “Oxford man” in the Oxford and Cambridge First Overland Expedition, driving from London to Singapore in 1955. A thanksgiving service will be held at St Bartholomew’s Church, Barbon… on 28th February at noon. Family flowers only please. He was s of Surg Cdr Douglas Arnold NEWBERY RN 1902-kas1941 and as her 1 h Janet Dorothy 1906-99 (Mrs Reginald Young) d of Col Bernard Ramsden JAMES 1864-1936 and Hon Angela Mary KAY-SHUTTLEWORTH 1872-1967 d of 1 Baron SHUTTLEWORTH 1844-1939 and Blanche Marion PARISH 1851-1924 scion of that gentry family f/o Bawburgh. He m 1966 Gillian b 1940 d of Capt Michael Valentine Paul FLEMING 1913-kas1940 (gt gs of Sir Philip ROSE 1 Bt 1816-83) and Letitia Blanche BORTHWICK 1913-2001 (gd of Sir Thomas BORTHWICK 1 Bt 1835-1912 who was f of 1 & only Baron WHITBURGH 1874-1967), and had a son and two daus as above.
