In addition to my post here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/Peerage-News/g7juRrgYk6A which details the death of one of the collaterals, I have been trying to establish more details about this family - there appear to be many males in remainder in their 50s/60s who never married with the youngest person in remainder being born 1965. This is all complicated by the fact that the family largely resides in the US (mostly Alabama) and so the standard sources have lost touch with the family.

Those in remainder, with my notes of what I have discovered:
0. Sir Thomas Alexander JOHNSTON, 14th Baronet (born 1956)  - there is a Thomas Alexander Johnston, age 63 (correct age), resident in Mobile, AL, listed as related to a Helen Johnston, who may well be his wife.

1. William Norville JOHNSTON (born 1955), a g-gs of the 11th Baronet. Unable to locate anything substantial.
#. Stephen Gregory JOHNSTON (1958-2019) - brother of William Norville, deceased per above link. 1 wife, Elizabeth. Possibly 3 dau.
2. Paul Brady JOHNSTON (born 1959), youngest brother of William Norville. Sleuthing shows up a Paul Brady Johnston, age 60 (correct), resident in Spring, TX, and previously resident in Mobile, AL. He is shown as related to Kathryn, Marsha, Albert, Megan, Sarah (all surname Johnston). If this is correct it seems likely that Albert is his son, and a potential new younger heir.

# Claude Edward JOHNSTON (1930 - 2007) - uncle of the preceding 3 brothers. I am unsure if his death has been recorded in recent Debrett's, however https://obits.dallasnews.com/obituaries/dallasmorningnews/obituary.aspx?n=claude-edward-johnston&pid=86034620 gives:
JOHNSTON, , CLAUDE EDWARD Claude Edward Johnston died Sunday January 7, 2007. Rosary will be recited at 6:00pm Wednesday, Jan. 10 and The funeral mass will be held Thursday, Jan. 11 at 1:00 at St. Rita Catholic Church. Papoo, as he was affectionately called by all those who knew and loved him, was born in Mobile, AL to William and Catherine Johnston. On February 20, 1960, he married Lucy and they had a happy and fulfilling marriage. For 47 years, the strength of his commitment to family was evident in his love and devotion to them. Papoo and Noni welcomed into their home many who would share with their family in celebration of life, especially during the holidays. Papoo had strength of character, and a quick mind. He never parsed his words in the giving of an opinion, and he always had one. He loved to hold court around the kitchen table telling stories and debating anyone who took him on. He had a tender heart that fostered his sensitivity to the care and nurturing of his grandchildren, which was a central activity in his life. He was a member of St. Rita Parish were he served as lector, and CCD teacher for many years. His faith was important to him and he lived it out by spending countless hours volunteering and helping others. Survivors include his wife, six children, and seventeen grandchildren. The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch.
My copy of Debrett's 2003 lists all six children (2 son, 4 dau) but no details of any of the 17 (!!!) grandchildren.

3. Edward Ryan JOHNSTON (born 1961) - elder son of Claude - currently resident Fairhope, AL (previously GA & TX) - unable to find anything else substantial
4. Bernard Matthias JOHNSTON (born 1965) - younger son of Claude - currently resident Dallas, TX (previously FL). I found a Bernard M Johnston resident in Dallas, age 54 (correct) with relatives listed as A Shanon Johnston, William G Johnson (sic?), Courtney A Johnston. William may be a son but note the surname is spelt in the source without a t.

I don't have information about living dynasts, but I recently compiled all I could find on the families genealogy, so I will share it here.

And as for people in the line of succession, this creation had a remainder to heirs male whatsoever, so while Burke's and the standard gemealogies include the descendants of the first Baronet and his brother, there will also be a large unknown number of Johnston collaterals in the ine of succession, descended from the grandfather and other male-line ancestors of the 1st Baronet.

Thanks for this useful information dpth.  I was aware that the remainder was heirs whatsoever so extinction is never truly possible (or at least truly provable), however, if there is not existing genealogical work done on the generations prior to John Johnston (d 1614) then I imagine finding others in remainder will be difficult if not impossible to prove.

Netty has found a little more information, confirming Paul Brady's marriage to Marsha, and giving William Norville's wife as Lorraine. There may be evidence this final couple are now resident in Ohio.

Henry- it seems there's been work done on this family going back a further eight generations from John Johnston (d. 1614), to Stiven (Stephen), who married the heiress of Caskieben, Margaret, dau. of Sir Andrew Garioch; I'm not sure if it's all been approved by any authority, though. There's a book, "The Family of Johnston of that Ilk and of Caskieben" (presumably that which can be read here- https://archive.org/details/genealogicalacco1832john - page 2 seems to be the start of the lineage, as described below, starting with Stephen), referenced as a source for this family site: https://www.clanmacfarlanegenealogy.info/genealogy/TNGWebsite/getperson.php?personID=I41563&tree=CC

Oops, forgot a number. Yes I think he is a son of William Norville, but am not 100 % sure. Guessed from the death announcement of the grandmother, as we knew who Lauren's father was, and the Bass children are Kathryn's of course.

Thanks Netty - from your work it seems very likely that there are young males in remainder from the family resident in the US.

G Willis - thanks for those links - interesting reading. It would appear that John Johnston of that Ilk (d 1614) had 4 sons:
1. Sir George, 1st Baronet, ancestor of the 2nd,3rd,4th baronets.
2. John "of whom there is no succession"
3. Thomas - ancestor of the 5th to current baronets.
4. Gilbert "of whom we have obtained no account".

Unless further work arises it seems likely that if the heirs male of Thomas are exhausted, then the title will fall into dormancy with the possible heirs being descended from Gilbert.  There will be similar problems with two of the younger brothers of John Johnston of that Ilk in that no account is given, however, two of the youngest brothers appear to have a well documented genealogy.
