My Lords, I regret to inform the House of the death of my old friend and
colleague, the noble Lord, Lord Moore of Lower Marsh, on 20 May. On
behalf of the House, I extend our condolences to the noble Lord’s family
and to all his friends.
A slight deviation from the Lord Speaker's usual formula for these announcements as they served together in the Thatcher government.
The Rt Hon John Edward Michael Moore, Baron Moore of Lower Marsh PC, (1937 - 2019)
He was created a privy counsellor in 1986 and a life peer in 1992. He served in government from 1979 to 1989, initially as a junior minister in Energy, then the Treasury, before becoming a Secretary of State in 1986, serving in Transport, Health, and Social Security. He appears never to have made a maiden speech in the Lords.
