From the Times of 3 January 2018: GIEDROYC Prince Michal Jan Henryk died suddenly and peacefully, at home in Oxford, on 29th December 2017, aged 88. Born at Lobzow, in the Second Polish Republic, beloved husband of Rosy, much-loved father of Miko, Kasia, Coky and Mel and adored grandfather of all their children.

He was s of Prince Tadeusz GIEDROYC (c1890-1941), of the Polish princely family of that name, and Anna DUNIN-SZOSTAKOWSKA (1894-1976). He m 1958 Rosemary Virginia Anna (b 1937) d of Charles Graham CUMPSTON (1897-1968) by his 1939 m (reg Q3 London) to Astrid Kate Oatlaye WALFORD (1907-84), and had a son and three daus as above, of whom: Coky (b 1963) m 1998 as her 2nd h Sir Thomas Weyland BOWYER-SMITH 15th Bt (b 1960); and Mel (b 1968) is the TV presenter Mel Giedroyc.

My most recent edition of Debrett's says that Sir Thomas has dropped the "Smyth" and is merely "Bowyer" now. Does anyone know if that is still correct? This family of Baronets has changed their surname so many times,though, so who knows how long he kept the change. :)

Yes, you're right. According to the latest edition of Debrett the present Baronet has dropped the Smyth part of the surname. The entry is headed Bowyer (formerly Bowyer-Smyth) (E) 1661, of Hill Hall, Essex
