You are correct Michael, the Perceval Maxwells were, and perhaps still
are (not having means to check it at hand) a Landed Gentry family, and
of "unbelievable complexity" in terms of family history, according to
the introduction to the family papers at the Public Record Office of
Northern Ireland.

They can most simply be divided into two branches, the northern branch
formerly residing at Finnebrogue House near Downpatrick and at
Groomsport House in County Down, and the southern branch at Moore
Hill, near Tallow, County Waterford where, the family papers state, a
Mr John Perceval-Maxwell lives and farms.

It seems the family at one point ended up owning Amherst Island in
Ontario, Canada for some years, in addition to other estates in
Ireland, more details from the link:

As a Perceval I can place Gavin in the family tree as I was related to
him and knew him.

The Percevals break down into about five strands or branches. The main
line is the Egmont line ,which seems to only have one male Perceval
remaining, the current Earl of Egmont, who lives in canada. The branch
produced Spencer Perceval the prime minister.

The first Earl was the grandson of the first baronet and from the
baronet's brother come the other branches. These are the Percevals of
Templehouse,Perceval-Maxwells,Perceval-prices and other
Percevals.Because Templehouse ended up being bought back in the mid
1800s the senior line here do not have the surname Perceval but are
Hunlokes. The other -Maxwells and -Prices are all descended from the
first second son of the Templehouse line.Gavin was the senior Perceval-
maxwell which had a Co Down branch as well as the Co Waterford branch.
