From the Times of 14 April 2023: YOUNGER Sophie Helen (née Engel) on 3rd April 2023 surrounded by family. Devoted mother of Joshua, Dominic, Finn and Benedict. Beloved sister of David, Daniella and Deborah. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday 12th May in Edinburgh. Donations, if desired, to St Columba’s Hospice.
She was d of Felix Benjamin ENGEL 1924-2005 of Moniaive, Dumfries by his c1956 m reg Q1 London to Elizabeth A H GASKELL. She m 1986 Hugh Patrick b 1958 s of Gavin William YOUNGER 1926-2003 (scion of (not descended from) the YOUNGER Bts of Auchencastle cr 1911, and of the MARSHALL Scots gentry family of Rachan & Glenhove) and Diana Mairi 1932-2019 (Queen ELIZABETH II’s 2nd cousin) d of Wing-Cdr Lord Malcolm Avondale DOUGLAS-HAMILTON OBE DFC MP RAF 1909-64 (s of 13th Duke of HAMILTON TD 1862-1940) and his 1st w Clodagh Pamela 1908-2003 d of Lt-Col Hon Malcolm BOWES-LYON CBE 1874-1957 (s of 13th Earl of STRATHMORE & KINGHOREN 1824-1904) and (as her 2nd h) Winifred GURDON-REBOW 1876-1957 scion of that gentry family of Wyvenhoe), and had four sons as above.
