Private family cremation on 28th June followed by a Service of Thanksgiving at 2.30pm at St Mary’s Church, Perth Road, Birnam, PH8 0JB. No flowers please, donations in his memory to Canine Partners Scotland c/o W. McNaughton, Funeral Directors, 20, George Street, Coupar Angus, PH13 9DH. A memorial service will be held at St Paul’s, Knightsbridge, London on October 11th.

He was s of 17th Earl of EGLINTON & WINTON (1914-66) and Ursula Joan (1916-1987) d of Hon Ronald Bannatyne WATSON (1883-1966, s of the Law Lord Baron WATSON (1828-99)) and Marjorie WATSON. He m 1964 Marion Carolina d of John Henry DUNN-YARKER, scion of the gentry family of that name of Leyburn Hall, and Elizabeth Adrienne PINCHING, and had four sons. The eldest son succeeds him:

Hugh Archibald William MONTGOMERIE (b 1966) [19th] Earl of EGLINTON & WINTON. Has yet to establish his claim and appear on The Roll of the Peerage. He m 1st 1991 (div 1998) Sara Alexandra d of Niel REDPATH of London. He m 2nd 2001 Carol Anne d of R Donald ROBINSON Jr of Brentwood, Tenn, USA, and has issue living by both marriages:
