Robert ("Bobby") Neame, who died on Friday 15th November aged 85, was the President and former Chairman of Shepherd Neame Ltd, the brewers of Faversham, Kent. The announcement of his passing was made on the company's website at https://www.shepherdneame.co.uk/investor-relations/shepherd-neame-announces-passing-president-and-former-chairman.
The Neame family of Kent last appeared in Burke's Landed Gentry in the 1952 edition. As well as the brewing branch, descended from Bobby Neame's great-grandfather, Percy Beale Neame (1836-1913), who became a partner in the company in 1864, the extensive genealogy features a number of other distinguished family members, including Lieutenant General Sir Philip Neame, VC, KBE, CB, DSO (1888-1978), who was the only person to receive both the Victoria Cross and an Olympic Gold medal, and the film director Ronald Neame (1911-2010) and his son, the film producer Christopher Neame (1942-2011). The latter's kinsman and namesake is Christopher Neame the actor (born 1947); he is a first cousin once removed downwards of Monica Neame (1888-1964), who was married to Sir Charles Arthur Mander, 2nd Bt (1884-1951).
