He was born 8 November, 1917, the son of Sir Claude Albert Frederick
Ricketts, 6th Baronet, by his wife Lilian Helen Gwendoline Hill, and
was educated at Haileybury and at Magdalene College Cambridge (2nd
Class Hons in History and Law, BA 1939, MA 1943).
Career:-->served in WWII as Captain, Devon Regiment; Personal Assistant
to the Chief of Staff, Gibraltar, 1942-45; ADC to the
Lieutenant-Governor of Jersey 1945-46; formerly partner in Wellington &
Clifford. He succeeded to the baronetcy on the demise of his father, 11
November, 1937.
He married in 1945, Anne Theresa Cripps, CBE (b. 12 April, 1919; d. 16
January, 1998), Chairman of the National Association of Citizens'
Advice Bureaux 1979-84, second daughter of the former Labour Chancellor
of the Exchequer, Sir Stafford Cripps, by his wife Dame Isobel, and
scion of the Barons Parmoor.
Sir Robert is survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters. The baronetcy
(created in 1828) passes to his elder son, Robert Tristram Ricketts (b.
17 Apr, 1946), Secretary General, British Horseracing Board since 2000.
The funeral and thanksgiving service is to take place at Minchinhampton
Parish Church, Glos, 20 Oct, 2005.
