The engagement is announced between Alexander, elder son of Lord and Lady Balniel, of Balcarres, Fife, and Allison, daughter of Mr and Mrs Michael L. Corbat, of New York, USA.

The Hon Alexander is Master of Lindsay, grandson of the Earl of Crawford and Balcarres.

Michael Corbat is the chief executive officer of Citigroup, one of the largest banks in the United States.
