Agnatically the family was surnamed "D'Ewes", and the D'Ewes family were the owners of Wellesbourne. They took the name Granville on becoming heirs to a branch of that family, John D'Ewes having in 1740 married Anne Granville. Anne Granville was sister of the famous Mrs Delany, and was niece of George Granville, Lord Lansdown and Jacobite Duke of Albemarle. (https://www.angelfire.com/realm/gotha/gotha/granville.html)
