thanks for posting this news.

What a mess that article is, with all the "Lord Robert" references. Also, he is NOT descended from Sir Robert Walpole, the Prime Minister, who was never known as "Lord Robert Walpole", or even "Lord Walpole", having been created "Viscount Walpole" at the same time he was created Earl of Orford.

For the benefit of their readers, that newspaper should probably clairfy in the photo caption that the portrait seems to be of Horatio Walpole, 1st Lord Walpole of Wolterton, and not of the better-known Horace/Horatio Walpole (who late in life became 4th Earl of Orford).

The 11th Baron has established his claim to the peerage.  See Minutes of Proceedings of House of Lords 15 September 2021:

Baronies of Walpole of Walpole and Walpole of Wolterton in the Peerage of Great Britain

The Lord Chancellor reported that Jonathan Robert Hugh Walpole had established his claim to the Baronies of Walpole of Walpole and Walpole of Wolterton in the Peerage of Great Britain. The Clerk of the Parliaments was accordingly directed to enter Lord Walpole on the register of hereditary peers maintained under Standing Order 9(4).

It has just occurred to me that the peerage books refer to the 1723 Barony as "Walpole" rather than "Walpole of Walpole".  The new Roll of the Peerage also refers to it as the Barony of "Walpole of Walpole" so maybe that is correct?

The title Lord Walpole of Walpole was created 1723 for Robert, eldest son of Sir Robert Walpole (Later 1st Earl of Orford), and had a remainder including the issue male of his grandfather. When Horace Walpole, 4th Earl of Orford, died in 1797, that Lordship of Walpole of Walpole indeed passed to the issue of the grantee's uncle Horatio, where it still exists. The current Lord is the 11th Lord Walpole of Walpole.

Meanwhile, the 1st Earl of Orford's brother Horatio had been created in 1756 Lord Walpole of Wolterton, and the present 11th Lord Walpole of Walpole, his descendant, is also 9th Lord Walpole of Wolterton.
