McCOWAN SIR DAVID WILLIAM CARGILL BT In his 87th year Resident of Loch Lomondside. David passed peacefully at Edin Barnet Care home following a short illness. Dearly beloved husband of Jean for 55 years, loving father of Caroline and David and adored grandfather of William, Jamie and Annabel. Dear brother in law to Muriel and Ben. Many will remember David as the founder and original proprietor of both Lomond Castle Hotel and Duck Bay Marina where he was admired and respected by staff and customers alike. In retirement David was a keen fisherman, gardener and loved walking his dogs through Balloch Park stopping to talk to others. His sense of humour lives in our memories. Due to Covid the funeral will be private. Memorial service TBC.

Thanks Netty.

Interesting that the title is used here, although neither nor his elder brother, the 3rd Baronet, had proven their claim with the Standing Council of the Baronetage.

His son, (Sir) David James Cargill McCOWAN (born 1975) succeeds as 5th Baronet.  The Kershaw list gives him as the last heir to the title, but the notice clearly indicates two grandsons (though admittedly both could be through his daughter).

Not sure what recent Debrett's have on him, but through Scotlands People I found two marriages:

David James Car(gill) McCOWAN to Christina BRYDEN 2007 Grantown on Spey & Nethybridge (ref supp)
David James Car(gill) McCOWAN to Kathryn Rhona BALFOUR 2013 Dumbarton (ref supp)
There is even a 3rd possible marriage in 2014, but it does not include the 2nd middle name, so I think it is somebody else.

I am always reluctant to post details of children in a public forum, but they are named in the notice so I will post minimally. I think this second marriage produced two children:
James (middle names supp) 2015
Annabel (middle names supp) 2016
If correct, there is an heir!

There is no William in the birth records, so presumably he is the son of the dau Caroline.

Henry,

Latest Debrett's doesn't mention any grandchildren.  For the new baronet it states "m 2007 (legally separated 2008) Christina Naomi Elliot, yr da of Prof John Bryden, of Aberdeen)"

His sister Caroline "m 1998 Alistair J Franks.  Address - PO Box EH143 Emerald Hill, Thornpark Estate, Harare, Zimbabwe"

In reply to Malta, I have searched high and low for a date, but found nothing so far.

The recent Kershaw list appears to confirm part of my work on the grandchildren and gives James C. M. as the ha, son of the new Bt.
