What about the marquises how many of them are on the list? I use to follow the Rich List very closely when it first came out 30 years ago. I even have a book that was published back in 1990 of the Rich List. Cadogan, Cowdray, Portman and Howard de Walden, usually tend to to eclipse all of the dukes except Westminster.

How times have changed, Zetland, Cholmondley, Normanby, Northampton and Bristol used to be on the list. Of course  the late Marquis of Bristol dissipated his fortune, but as far as I am aware the land holdings of the rest remain the same. Northampton was listed as being worth £110 million until recently and in 1990 Cholmodeley's father left £110 million in his will, a record at the time.

Most titled and landed families have asked to be removed from the list. With family/company settlements and trusts the wealth is now split between various family members/offspring/siblings etc so no one individual/head is worth the overall amount.

Not only are there 11 dukes on the list, there are other dukes who are not far behind in terms of wealth eg. Norfolk Abercorn & Wellington(taking into account the Guinness inheritance of the present duchess).
The striking thing is how, dukes,as a grade in the peerage, have been able to preserve their wealth compared to other peers.

Norfolk used to be on the list, with a listing of 28,000 acres, Somerset used to be on the list too. I don't recall Abercorn, but I think that Baron's Court is surrounded by 15,000 acres. Even the landless St. Albans was on the first couple of lists on the basis of being a multi millionaire accountant. Wellington was also there on account of the acreage around Stratfield Saye. I am sure that there are more earls on the list than there are Dukes, but their wealth with the exception of Cadogan would be of a much lesser stature. The entry level back in 1990 was £30,000,000.

Manchester is most definitely in that category and they have been for since the 50's. St Albans was listed as being wealthy by the Times Rich List in 1990. Leinster is probably a a poor dukedom due largely to the mismanagement of the duke who died in 76. Hugh Montgomery Massingberg details the events quite clearly in his book on the aristocracy, I forgot the name, red cover with a picture of the Marlborough duke who married the Vanderbilt heiress.

The Duke and Duchess of St Albans were part of a BBC documentary five years ago.He is described as a landless duke. The coronets are kept in the wardrobe of their London townhouse.

Are there any Earls, Viscounts, Barons, Baronets or life and law peers included in that list?

Also, what is the rank of the Queen and Prince Charles? Are there any foreign royals in the list? I believe the Crown Princess of Greece is very rich. Any other foreign ex-royals among the list? What about the Aga Khan?

Thanks LoopyCrown for the listing, I don't know why the list the Dorias as prince and princess. The title is extinct, even though the two of them have the wealth and the palace, as adopted children they are not entitled to the title and even had they not been so it is not transmissible through the female line.
