I had assumed for the last 3 decades that the principle claimant to this peerage was a  certain Huba Campbell? According to a Wikipedia article on the subject,  no petition has been lodged with the Lord Lyon by the above mentioned claimant. Furthermore, the said article states that Sir Lachlan Campbell 6th Bart is a claimant. It says that his claim is not possible due to the illegitimacy of one John Campbell. Do any of the two claimants stand a realistic chance of having this peerage revived.

Hi marquess.

According to DPB Online, the "presumed heir" is Huba Andras Campbell (b. 1945).  He has a son, who is shown as unmarried.  He also has a brother, also with an unmarried son.

It would appear, at least from this, that it would be up to Huba Campbell to prove his right to succeed, but from what I've read here, it appears that proving a person's right to succeed to a title, can be a lengthy and costly process.

Considering the earldom and associated titles have been dormant for almost 30 years now, I'm not so sure we should hold our breath at an end to the dormancy.

And once it gets past these 4 men, I think it really becomes a messy situation.

Brooke,
Here is the link to the guidance notes about proving a claim to a peerage from the College of Arms:
Huba is a direct descendant in the male line of Charles Campbell whose grandson Charles succeeded as 9th Earl of Breadalbane and whose son John succeeded him as 10th Earl before the title became dormant.
In theory, therefore, he should not have much difficulty in proving his claim, as presumably Hungary by that time had adequate records of births deaths and marriages.
However, his title will not be recognised in Hungary and provides no other  benefits(ie sitting in the House of Lords),so it is likely that he has concluded there is no point in trying to prove his succession.

Apparently Huba has claimed it, but I can't find anything more recent than 2000. This article is behind a paywall.

Wikipedia mentions: "There are claims that Hungarian-born Huba Campbell (born 1945) petitioned the Lord Lyon for recognition of his right to the Earldom of Breadalbane and Holland, together with the subsidiary titles, and to the undifferenced arms.[3] However, an extensive search in the records of the Lyon Office and discussions with the lawyer involved shows that no such petition was ever made. Genealogist Hugh Peskett failed to find any evidence in Hungary of such a link, and the search was abandoned on 2000.[4] The claim that Huba is the great-great-grandson of George Andrew Campbell (1791–1852)- brother of Charles William Campbell of Borland, who was grandfather of the ninth Earl-cannot be substantiated. The claimed descent was at any rate published in Burke's Peerage in 2003.[5]

A British aristocrat, Sir Lachlan Campbell, 6th Baronet, also claims the titles. He is a descendant of Sir Guy Campbell, 1st Baronet, grandson of John Campbell, son of the Honourable Colin Campbell, the son of first Earl by his second marriage to Lady Mary Campbell. Sir Lachlan however, is apparently unable to succeed because his ancestor John Campbell was illegitimate (see Campbell baronets of St Cross Mede, for further history of this branch of the family).
