LORD H. DALMENY AND MISS H.CLAPHAM
The engagement is announces between Harry, only son of the Earl and Countess of Rosebery, and Harriet, younger daughter of Mr Barrie and Mrs Mari Clapham

This will be Lord Dalmeny's second marriage.  He m (1) 1994 (div 2014) Caroline Julia Daglish

Thanks Colin.  With "Lord H. Dalmeny" to add to "Mr... Viscount Woodstock", it seems that The Times is badly in need of some editorial knowledge.

When the Court Circular frequently lists the wives of Commonwealth Governors/Governors-General, as 'Lady X Smith' when her husband is only a knight, then you can't expect newspapers to know correct form.

While I am in no hurry to defend the Times, in this case, would the text, including the heading, not have been provided by those placing the notice?

Fairly recently, I happened upon the style guide of a media organisation (although I can't remember which at the moment!) It said to use the form of address as given by the person, even if it's technically incorrect. It may not be the Times that was unaware of the correct usage.
