From the Tines of 10 Dec 2024: HAVILAND Caroline (née Barbour) of Tomintianda, Strathtummel, Perthshire, died peacefully on 1st December 2024, aged 94. Dearly loved wife of the late Julian, mother of Peter, Charles and Richard, grandmother and great-grandmother; former humanitarian worker. Donations in her memory may be given to Médecins Sans Frontières.

She was d of George Freeland BARBOUR 1882-1946 (gs of Sir Robert Nicholas FOWLER 1^st Bt 1828-91) and Hon Helen Victoria HEPBURN-SCOTT 1891-1982 d of 9^th Lord POLWARTH 1864-1944 and Edith Frances 1867-1930 d of Sir Thomas Fowell BUXTON 3^rd Bt 1837-1915 and Lady Victoria NOEL 1839-1916 d of 1^st Earl of GAINSBOROUGH 1781-1866 (and gd of 3^rd Earl of RODEN 1788-1870, as well gt gd of 12^th Lord LE DESPENCER 1766-1831, etc). She m 1959 the TV journalist Julian Arthur Charles 1930-2023 s of Maj Leonard Proby HAVILAND 1884-1971 (bro of Capt Wilfred Pollen HAVILAND MBE 1881-1947 sometime head of that gentry family of Delrow House) and Helen Dorothea 1902-72 d of Gen Sir Charles FERGUSSON of Kilkerran 7th Bt 1865-1951 and Lady Alice Mary BOYLE 1877-1958 d of 7th Earl of GLASGOW 1833-1915, and had three sons as above.
