From the Times of 6 Aug 2026: ALLISON Joseph Philip Sloan (Philip) on 26th July 2026 died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Husband to Carol; father to Austyn, Catherine, Joe, Peter; brother to Louise; doting Grandaddy. Retired headmaster of St Mary’s Music School, Edinburgh; deputy head of Belhaven Hill, Dunbar; taught at Watson’s and Heriot’s. Funeral Monday 17th August at noon at Warriston Crematorium. No flowers but donations to RNLI. A livestream of service available…

He was s of Joseph William Sloan ALLISON 1919-2000 and Dorothy Stella Margaret 1919-2010 d of Philip Austyn BARRAN 1876-1953 (gs of Sir John BARRAN 1 Bt 1821-1905) and Dorothy Currer BRIGGS 1884-1956. He m 1976 Caroline Margaret b 1947 (Manila, Philippines) ref 171/CL/447 Consular Return d of Lt James Roxburgh PATON MBE 1903-1989 of Gullane, E Lothian by his 1934 m (Manila, Philippines) ref 177/FN/225 Foreign Returns to Anne Marie GMUR, and had three sons and a dau as above.
