Patricia Jocelyn (St. John) McCarter (1922 – 2025) With great love and gratitude, we announce the passing of Peggy McCarter on November 28, 2025, at the age of 103. Predeceased by her husband, Alec, she is survived by her four children, nine grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Born in 1922 in Victoria, Peggy grew up in CPR railway stations along the Fraser and Thompson Canyons, where her parents welcomed and fed men riding the rails during the Depression. Their quiet generosity shaped Peggy's own lifelong compassion. Adventurous from the start, she famously crossed the Fraser River in a bucket pulley before the age of 10. The Silk Train's passage through their station sparked her enduring love of fabrics, fashion, and design, while her early curiosity led to a lifelong passion for books, music, and learning. Peggy met Alec at UBC and later joined him in Toronto, where she typed his doctoral thesis and worked as a model as they began their life together. As their family grew, she created warm, welcoming homes wherever Alec's academic career took them, becoming an exceptional cook, gardener, host, and friend. She continued to study music, languages, and art throughout her life. Travel was a constant joy - from early camping trips through Europe to later adventures in North Africa, the Caribbean, and across Canada. She swam, practiced Tai Chi, and gardened well into her later years. Peggy spent her final decades at Glengarry Hospital, where staff provided exceptional care and a true sense of belonging. Her devoted companion brought comfort, laughter, and light to her final years. The family offers heartfelt thanks to the teams and individuals who supported her so warmly. No funeral service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peggy's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
