He was the longest serving baronet on the roll since the death of Leslie Lynn Marr, 2nd baronet in May 2021. He also has the rare distinction of having succeeded to the baronetcy on the same day of his birth as his father had been killed during the Second World War prior to his son's birth on the same day. There are a few instances of posthumous heirs who succeeded to the titles on their birth (their fathers having died weeks or months prior to their birth) but I think there is no other instance of a heir being born the same day as his father's death and succeeding on that same day. Can anybody point to other such instances in the history of the peerage or the baronetage??

Notes on the descendants of Sir Henry Howard:

Sir Henry Francis HOWARD (Corby Castle 3 Nov 1809-Munich 28 Jan 1898); m.1st Munich 23 Dec 1830 Hon. Sevilla Erskine (Washington 18 Feb 1809-Berlin 12 Mar 1835), dau of 2nd Lord Erskine and of his first wife (m.in USA 1799) Frances Cadwallader; m.2nd Berlin 30 Aug 1841 Marie Ernestine v.der Schulenburg (Priemern 26 Jan 1820-Munich 25 Dec 1897), dau of Leopold Wilhelm von der Schulenurg, cr 1828 [Danish] Baron af Schulenburg, and of his wife Juliane von Kirchbach.

By his first marriage he had two daughters who remained unmarried.

By his second marriage he had three daughters and a son. The eldest daughter of the second marriage seems, oddly, to have been named "Sevilla", the name of Sir Henry's first wife.

The other children of the second marriage were:

Sir Henry Howard (Berlin 11 Aug 1843-Rome 4 May 1921); m.Greenhill, Maryland 2 Oct 1867 Cecilia Dowdall Riggs (Corn Riggs, Washington 20 Jun 1844-The Hague 3 Dec 1907); one of his daughters married the German Freiherr von Recum, while his other descendants were British or American

Catherine Mary Howard (London 3 Apr 1846-Munich 15 Feb 1905); m.Munich 17 Jul 1873 Ernst Graf von Rechberg (Munich 3 Jun 1840-Munich 6 Dec 1913); this is one of the families which were so-called "mediatized" and included in Section II of the Almanach de Gotha

Sir Francis (Berlin 26 Mar 1848-Castle Godwyn, Glocs 21 Mar 1930); m.Haidenburg 23 Apr 1895 Gertrude Boyd (New York 27 Feb 1871-London 6 Oct 1953); his issue remained British

Mary Louise (Berlin 4 Feb 1850-Haidenburg 10 Sep 1940); m.Munich 27 Jun 1872 Ludwig Frhr von Aretin (Haidenburg 19 Mar 1845-Haidenburg 5 Feb 1884); of her children, one married Sir Arthur Blennerhassett, 5th Bt., while her eldest son died young and the second son and his issue remained German.
