I wonder whether anyone can shed any more light on the confused genealogy of the Hene Baronets.

The Complete Baronetage has this genealogy (bearing in mind that usually it never mentions younger children who had no bearing on the title):

Sir Henry Henn, of Winkfield, cr Baronet 1642 (b.ca 1577, fl 1665, d.by 1668); m.Dorothy Stapleford
1.Sir Henry HENE, 2nd Bt. (ca 1632-d.ca 1675?); m.Muriel, dau of Sir John Corbet, Bt.
1.1.Sir Henry, 3rd Bt. (bap 14 Oct 1651 [1652?]-16 Jan 1705); m.NN
1.1.1.Sir Richard, 4th Bt. (ca 1675-ca 1710); m.by 1702 NN
1.1.1.1.Ann (bap 17 Feb 1703-    )
1.1.1.2.Arabella (bap 8 Apr 1708-    ); Arabella and Ann mentioned in footnote in Cokayne as heirs to one of the Hene Properties
1.2.Corbet, d.Sep 1693; m. “Dame Mary Beckford”, a widow

Burke's Extinct Baronetage has the following genealogy:

Sir Henry Henn, of Winkfield, cr Baronet 1642 (b.ca 1577, fl 1665, d.by 1668); m.Dorothy Stapleford
1.Sir Henry HENE, 2nd Bt.; m.Muriel, dau of Sir John Corbet, Bt.
1.1.Sir Richard, 3rd Bt.; Burke's says only that the title became extinct after 1697
1.2.Alice; m.James Dewhurst
1.3.Penelope; Penelope and Alice are said in Burke's to have been co-heirs to their brother.

I was able to find in  “Transactions of the Shropshire Archaeological and Natural History", Vol 4, pp 332-3, a monumental inscription for Mrs Dewhurst, described as daughter of Sir Richard; it says she died 30 Jun 1752, in her 37th year. If the date and age and parentage are correct, then Sir Richard died a few years after the date Cokayne surmised. Also, Alice and Penelope, called by Burke's the sisters of Sir Richard, must have been his daughters. Oddly, only Alice and Penelope are mentioned in Burke's, and only Ann and Arabella are mentioned in Cokayne.

one additional thing:

Cokayne says that Sir Henry, 2nd Bt., married in or before 1652, but says that his son, the 3rd Bt., was baptized 14 Oct 1651. Query whether this is a mistake for 1652?

He points out that in the 1665 Visitation of Berkshire, the 2nd Bt. is listed with 6 children, including two sons (Henry, aged 13) and Corbett.

thanks!

what a mess this family's genealogy is!

Burke's omits a Baronet and thus a generation, and lists two sisters of Sir Richard who must be daughters.

Cokayne cites baptismal records for two of Richard's daughters, neither of which is the one mentioned in the will of Richard's wife, about which a member of this board sent me some information showing that she mentioned only a daughter, Penelope. If Penelope was the only surviving child of Sir Richard and his wife Anne, then she must be the Mrs Dewhurst in the monumental inscription, and not "Alice" as Burke's says.

For anyone interested in this family, below is what I have so far. A member of this group has found several new pieces of information and sent them to me privately, and based on his and my research I now have the family as:

HENE [Henn, Henne], of Winkfield [Wingfeild] (1642)

Sir Henry Henn, of Winkfield, cr Baronet 1642 (b.ca 1577, fl 1665, d.by 1668); m.Dorothy Stapleford

1.Sir Henry HENE, 2nd Bt. (ca 1632-d.ca 1675?); m.Muriel, dau of Sir John Corbet, Bt.

1.1.Sir Henry, 3rd Bt. (bap 14 Oct 1651 [1652?]-16 Jan 1705); m.NN

1.1.1.Sir Richard, 4th Bt. (ca 1675-ca 1715?); m.by 1702 Anne N; will of Dame Ann Hene pr 1716, with the only relative named being a dau Penelope; as for his date of death, Cokayne surmised that it must have been ca 1710; however, his daughter Alice seems to have been born ca 1714/6; he apparently predeceased his wife, whose will was proven 1716 as said above

1.1.1.1.Ann (bap 17 Feb 1703-    )

1.1.1.2.Arabella (bap 8 Apr 1708-    ); Arabella and Ann’s baptisms mentioned in footnote in Cokayne but must have d.young because not mentioned elsewhere; their next two sisters’ baptisms not noted by Cokayne

1.1.1.3.Penelope, born presumably ca 1711 based on her administration of her mother’s estate being granted in 1732

1.1.1.4.Alice, d.30 Jun 1752, in her 37th year; m.12 Apr 1733 Rev. James Dewhurst; “Transactions of the Shropshire Archaeological and Natural History”, Vol 4, pp 332-3, has a monumental inscription for “Mrs Dewhurst” giving this date, age and parentage; note that Burke’s Extinct Baronetcies has her, and another girl, Penelope, as daus of the 2nd Bt, but then says they were sisters and co-heirs of their brother, Richard

1.2.Corbet, d.Sep 1693; m. “Dame Mary Beckford”, a widow; he is mentioned in a footnote in Cokayne, and confirmed by his Will records; not mentioned in Burke’s

1.3.Anne

1.4.Alice

1.5.Muriel

1.6.Arabella [in the will of her brother Corbett this 4th dau is called Latitia, but this might actually be an additional daughter; the first 4 are named in the 1665 Visitation of Berkshire]

2.Mary, d.young

3.Dorothy, d.young

NOTES: there seems much confusion about this family. The genealogy above, except for Penelope and Alice, comes from Cokayne and some additional sources; however, Burke’s Extinct Baronetcies omits the 3rd Bt. entirely and makes Sir Richard son of the 2nd Bt.; Burke’s makes Penelope and Alice, Richard’s daughters, instead his sisters

Magna Britannia, Vol I Part II, Berkshire, confirms that Sir Richard was great-grandson of the 1st Bt. (noted because Burke’s misses a generation) and that he was survived by daus Penelope, spinster, and Alice, wife of James Dewhurst

Thank you dpth... for setting such an intriguing puzzle! The following, from parish records, family settlements, wills and legal case papers should be a fairly definitive answer.
The main point to note is that there was no third Henry Hene baronet. He predeceased his father who was eventually succeeded by youngest son Richard, named through the years in various family wills and settlements.
