Wonders who was the English lord !!

I'm not a hundred per cent sure; but I think she married first Edmund H. Fane who d. in 1968 aged 31. Fane, may or may not have been a scion of the earls of Westmoreland

The Times of 1 April 1960 announced the engagement:

MR E H FANE and MISS B S SMITH

The engagement is announced between Mr Edmund [Henry] Fane, Coldstream Guards, son of the late Major H N Fane and of Mrs Fane of Park House, Tisbury, Wiltshire, and Barbara, only daughter of Mr Stanley Smith of 10, South Bary Road, Hong Kong and the late Mrs Smith.

The Times subsequently reported the marriage in December. The only additional information was the bride's full name: Barbara Stanley Smith.

There may be a Westmorland connection. I've simply failed to make it!

Any chance the Fane/Jump marriage is a second marriage of Major Henry Neville Fane (1883-1947)? He did divorce his first wife Harriet Hepburn-Stuart-Forbes-Trefusis in 1935...

Spot on Catherine! Probate was granted to Henry Neville Fane's widow, Annette Fane, in December 1947. Still no closer to making a lordly connection for Countess Barbara's 1st husband, but at least now we know his father H N Fane was first married to a dau of 21st Lord Clinton, and had issue by her who are descended from a lord.
